I like how Flash games made gaming feel so immediate. The browser-based format meant you could discover a strange little puzzle or action game and start playing almost instantly, without worrying about installations or system requirements. The emphasis on experimentation also gave independent developers room to try ideas that might not have worked in larger commercial games. It’s a shame the original Flash platform disappeared, but the fact that archives and emulators are keeping these games accessible shows how much of an impact they had on internet culture.
