Hello guys,
I am studying for the Cisco 800-150 exam, and one of the things I wish to get good at is troubleshooting network devices in a systematic way. I already know the basics of networking, however, the actual troubleshooting might get more complicated in case there are a few different reasons why the symptoms appear. So, for instance, in case a network device becomes unreachable, this might be due to the cabling problem, the state of its interfaces, the incorrect address, the configuration problem, or even the defective hardware inside. So, instead of guessing what’s wrong, I try to learn how to take a systematic approach and identify the most probable reason and then prove it. And yet another thing that needs to be considered carefully is hardware replacement. Sometimes it is not enough just to change the defective part with the new one. Depending on the type of the device and the particular case you might need to make sure that the new part is compatible with the existing one, the original configuration is preserved, the software requirements are met, and the device works properly after replacement. I have also been studying configuration backup and recovery in order to practice recovering a device to its intended state since it is one of the key aspects of network troubleshooting. It is very important to understand what data to back up, how to make sure that the device is restored and what to look at if it acts unexpectedly. While reviewing the topics covered by the certification, I’ve been using different study materials, including the 800-150 exam questions resource, to explore exam-related scenarios and identify areas where my understanding needs improvement. In connection with the preparation for the certification and studying of topics which are covered, I have been using various sources to examine situations, which could arise during the examination. It is much more interesting for me to understand why a certain troubleshooting step is needed rather than simply memorizing the chain of commands. Those who had any experience working in Cisco field support or preparing for the certification, what is your strategy when troubleshooting when there is no obvious reason for the problem? What steps do you usually take, starting with a physical layer or following some checklist? It would be great if anyone could give some recommendations regarding practicing hardware replacement, configuration recovery, and checking the results after it.
