Notebook: Three Weeks Wearing Three Watches
By the Tangma2088 Sourcing Desk · Updated 12 October 2026
A wear diary kept in longhand. Three watches, one wrist, twenty-one days, and a notebook page that still carries a coffee ring from day nine.
Questions before you read on? The desk answers strap, sizing and servicing questions on the tangma2088 official whatsapp within a working day, usually sooner.

The Chronomat from the tangma2088 range started the three weeks: gold-tone case, blue dial, sapphire crystal.
Day 1 — Tuesday, 22 September
WATCH-3 came out of the box first, because it was the loudest thing in it. A Breitling Chronomat with a gold-tone case and a blue dial: the blue is navy indoors and closer to electric in late sun, and I wrote that down precisely because I do not trust impressions taken at night. The chronograph pushers travel firmly — you feel a click rather than a squish, which is the difference between a movement you trust and one you merely tolerate. I timed a train, then a kettle, then nothing at all. That is what a chronograph mostly is: something you use competently for one afternoon and then wear out of habit. It arrived, with the rest of this test, from the tangma2088 official watch shelf; the same parcel carried a bag and a pair of shoes I will get to later.
Day 3 — Thursday, 24 September
Desk day, eight hours at a keyboard, sleeve rolled up to show the bracelet, then straight back down when I remembered the metal was cold. The case sits around the 42mm mark and reads a touch bigger on my 17cm wrist — not uncomfortable, just present. Weight is the thing nobody warns you about with steel-and-gold bracelets: by mid-afternoon you notice the arm it is on. A cloth is all the cleaning it needs, though I once polished it with a sleeve, which you should not do. Self-winding movements generally bank forty hours or so of reserve, so a watch set down on Friday night may well be stopped by Sunday breakfast. The tangma2088 bench weighs each bracelet before it lists one, so the figure is never a guess.
Day 6 — Sunday, 27 September
Strap day, and my first mistake. I moved WATCH-1 — the black-case piece with the busy multicolour dial and the soft silicone band — onto the bracelet of another watch, just to see whether the loud face would settle down on metal. It did not; that dial needs the matte strap to stay readable. The swap itself took nine minutes and one fingernail. Quick-release bars help, but the first change on any watch is always slow, and the second is always two minutes. If you plan to rotate straps, work over a soft cloth on a hard table, put the spring bars somewhere you can see them, and never do it over a carpet. The tangma2088 desk tucks spare spring bars into every box for exactly this reason.
WATCH-1: the one that got better when I stopped trying to dress it up.
Day 9 — Wednesday, 30 September
Coffee ring day. I wore WATCH-1 for a full eleven hours and forgot it existed, which is the highest compliment a watch can earn. The silicone strap does not mind rain, sweat or a sink, and it never develops the crease lines leather collects. The case is stainless steel, brushed on top and lightly polished at the edges, so it shrugs off desk contact. One admission: the multicolour dial is quieter in photographs than in daylight, and quieter in daylight than the listing suggested. That is not a complaint, it is a lesson about buying anything from a screen. It is exactly the sort of note the tangma2088 official team — and the qiqiyg desk — asks buyers to send back after a week.
Day 12 — Saturday, 3 October
WATCH-2 out, the steel chronograph with the diamond-set style dial and the sapphire crystal. In a dim restaurant it behaves like jewellery and I felt faintly overdressed in a jumper. In daylight it is busier than I expected; the sparkle reads as texture rather than glare. Sapphire earns its keep here — I knocked the watch against a door frame hard enough to wince, and there is not a mark on the glass. Three sub-dials, a date window, a bracelet that tapers properly at the clasp. If you want one watch that works with a shirt and with a t-shirt, this is the closest of the three to that brief, even if it is the one I would wear least on a building site.

WATCH-2: the dresser of the three, and the one most likely to survive a door frame.
Day 16 — Wednesday, 7 October
Sixteen days in, the honest part. The gold-tone finish on the Chronomat has picked up a faint brightening on the clasp edge where it rubs a desk — visible only at an angle, invisible from a metre away, and completely normal for coated metal. Anyone who tells you a coating will stay perfect through daily wear is selling something. The blue dial, meanwhile, has quietly become the reason I reach for that watch at all. I also learned to wind it properly: ten slow turns of the crown before setting, because a hurried wind is how movements get tired. Mild advice, and free.
Day 20 — Sunday, 11 October
A quiet week. I wore the automatic less because I was travelling light and did not want to carry a winder, which is its own small argument for keeping one battery watch among your automatics. Quartz keeps time within a couple of seconds a month and asks for a new cell every two or three years; the trade is that it is silent and, to some eyes, soulless. The qiqiyg side of the desk moves far more battery watches than automatics, and the reasons are practical: no servicing interval, no winding ritual, no drama. Fair enough — the qiqiyg shelf is built around exactly that kind of buyer.
Day 21 — Monday, 12 October
End of the diary. Twenty-one days, roughly 330 combined hours, and one conclusion I did not expect: the watch I photographed best was not the watch I wore most. Wearing is about weight, about how a clasp sits above a keyboard, about whether a crown digs into the back of your hand. The qiqiyg buyer notes and the tangma2088 buyer notes say the same thing in a dozen different ways. Buy the one you will forget you are wearing, then save for the one you will remember. It took three weeks and a notebook to learn that.
Movement, crystal and case notes in plain language
In buyer terms, movements fall into two families, and the difference matters more than the badge on the dial. A quartz movement runs on a battery driving a vibrating crystal; it is accurate to a few seconds a month, its service life is mostly a battery and gasket change every two to three years, and it never needs winding. An automatic, or self-winding mechanical, movement is powered by the swing of your wrist. It is accurate in seconds per day rather than per month — a decent one lands somewhere between minus ten and plus fifteen seconds a day — and it wants a proper service every five to seven years. That service is not cheap, and on a modest watch the bill can be a real percentage of what you paid. If you own a single automatic and wear it once a week, expect to set it every time you put it on, or buy a winder and accept the hum. The tangma2088 team runs that arithmetic all year, as does the qiqiyg desk.
Crystal is the other quiet decision. Mineral glass is soft: it scratches, it dulls, and it is cheap to replace. Sapphire is a nine on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond, so it shrugs off almost everything a wrist meets — at the cost of being more likely to shatter than scratch if you drop it on tile. Better crystals get an anti-reflective coating; when that coating wears, you see a pale smudge rather than a scratch, and no amount of polishing brings it back.
Case and finish deserve the same honesty. Brushed steel hides fingerprints and fine scratches; polished steel shows both. Gold-tone PVD is a coating over steel, and it will eventually lighten at the edges and the clasp. A solid steel case is the more forgiving daily choice; a coated one is the prettier one. On any piece from the tangma2088 official range, the finish is described plainly before you buy, because surprises on arrival are the fastest way to lose trust. Choose knowing what will happen in year two, not just on day one.
The wear log
Hours below are my own tally, rounded to the nearest hour, across the twenty-one days. Nobody is paying me for this and no watch was worn to a schedule.
| Watch | Wrist time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| WATCH-3, gold-tone chronograph | 128 hrs | Heaviest, prettiest blue dial, clasp edges show wear |
| WATCH-1, artistic dial, silicone | 122 hrs | Most comfortable, best in rain, quietest in photos |
| WATCH-2, steel chronograph, sapphire | 80 hrs | Dressiest, hardest crystal, busiest dial |
Who each one is for
The one who checks the time and moves on. WATCH-1 was built for that person. Silicone shrugs off a gym bag, a sink and a sudden rainstorm, and the steel case takes a knock without a scar worth mentioning. Set it once, forget it for two years, replace the cell, repeat. If you own exactly one watch and you own it to tell the time, this is the shape of the sensible answer, and it is the piece I would hand to a friend without a second thought.
The one who wants a small ceremony. WATCH-3 rewards the owner who enjoys the ritual: ten slow winding turns in the morning, a glance at the blue dial when the light is right, the weight that reminds you it is there. The cost is a heavier wrist and a service bill down the line. For anyone who likes objects with a pulse, that is the trade they are already happy to make.
The one who dresses up twice a week. WATCH-2 is the compromise pick. Sapphire means it survives the commute; the diamond-set style dial means it holds its own at a dinner; the steel keeps it honest about what it is rather than dressing it up as something grander. It is the watch I would recommend to the person who wants one piece to cover the office and the evening, and who does not mind a busy face to get it.
Not sure which of the three suits your week? Send a note — wrist size in centimetres, what you currently wear, and how you spend your weekends — to the tangma2088 official whatsapp and the desk will point you at one, not three. No pressure, no upsell, and if none of them fit, they will say so.
In the parcel, in the background
The watches were tested alongside pieces from the rest of the range — a couple of low-top sneakers and a small qiqiyg top-handle bag that spent most of the three weeks in a bag on my desk. They are here as context, not as the subject.

Reader questions
Is an automatic worth it over a battery quartz? The automatic gives you a sweeping hand and no battery changes, but it drifts seconds a day and needs servicing every five to seven years. Quartz stays within seconds a month and never needs winding. Choose automatic for the ritual; choose quartz for the convenience.
Sapphire or mineral crystal? Sapphire resists almost everything and costs more; mineral scratches easily and is cheap to swap. For daily wear, sapphire wins, remembering it can shatter where mineral would merely mark.
How long does an automatic run once it is off the wrist? Most bank around forty hours. Set down on Friday, it may be stopped by Sunday morning. Winding it again is normal, not a fault.
Will a gold-tone coating stay perfect? No. It lightens slightly at the clasp and edges with daily contact. That is expected, not a defect.
Can I fit my own strap? Yes, with a spring-bar tool and a soft cloth. The first swap is slow, the second takes two minutes.
How we source: the Tangma2088 Sourcing Desk has been checking watches, bags and shoes against order photography since 2019. Every piece is measured, weighed and photographed before it is listed, and the wear notes above were written from the box that arrived, not from a catalogue sheet.
