How often should you really inspect your roof for damage?

I'm wondering how often one should actually inspect their roof for damage. I mean, I glance up there occasionally, but I'm not exactly climbing up with a ladder and magnifying glass on a regular basis. Is it something that you should do seasonally, or only after a major storm? Are there telltale signs that I should be looking for from the ground, or do you really need to get up there to see what's going on? Honestly, I have no clue! Am I neglecting my responsibilities as a homeowner if I'm not doing this regularly?

It's kind of a weird thought that we put so much trust in a structure that we rarely actually see up close. Our roofs are constantly exposed to the elements, bearing the brunt of sun, rain, wind, and snow, yet most of us only think about them when something goes wrong. It really highlights how much we take for granted the essential things that keep us safe and dry.

That’s a really important question! Ideally, you should give your roof a good once-over at least twice a year – spring and fall are good times. After any major weather event, like strong winds or a heavy snowfall, it's always smart to take a look too. Even from the ground, you can spot things like missing or damaged shingles, or moss/algae growth. Otherwise, I'd recommend contacting Roofing Contractors in Duncan, BC for a more thorough inspection, especially if you're not comfortable climbing up there yourself. They can spot issues you might miss and prevent costly repairs down the road. I would say it's definitely worth it!
