Has anyone successfully promoted music internationally without already having a large following? I’d like to understand which platforms or promotional methods can help an independent artist reach audiences abroad.

You don’t necessarily need a huge following to start reaching listeners abroad. I’d begin with a few countries where your genre has an active audience and test channels such as local playlists, blogs, social communities, and targeted ads. It helps to adapt the campaign to each market instead of sending the same message everywhere. I’d also track saves, follows, repeat plays, and profile visits to see whether the new audience is actually engaging. If you want to explore broader campaign options, worldwide music promotion is worth checking alongside your own organic outreach.

Have you found that local playlists and blogs work better than paid ads when entering a new country? I’m wondering where to test first.

I’d test both with a small budget. Local playlists can bring targeted listeners, while ads are useful for quickly testing different audiences and locations.
