So this is a new one for me. I got a letter in the mail from United TranzActions saying I owe money on a returned check. The problem is I have no idea what transaction they're talking about. There's no merchant name that means anything to me, no clear date that lines up with anything in my records, and the amount includes some fee I never agreed to.

I called once to ask for details and got the runaround. The person on the phone couldn't tell me who the original merchant was or why the fee was added, just kept saying I needed to pay. I've started keeping everything now, the letter, my bank statements for the last several months, and notes from that call.

Before I respond to them in writing, I want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious. Has anyone else gotten one of these letters where the transaction was unclear? How did you get them to actually explain what the charge was for? I've been reading up here and it seems like this is a pattern with them: https://consumerlawfirmcenter.com/united-tranzactions-phone-harassment/

Any advice would be appreciated. I just want a straight answer about what this is even about before I pay anything.
